Mermaid Thank you’s and Reminders

Big thanks to Robyn Whaley for hosting our January gathering and for the fun earring making project. If you didn’t have cash on hand, you can still get the $5 to Robyn for the cost of supplies either via mail (1325 Firethorn Dr Rifle, CO 81650) or at the February 13th gathering at Shelley’s home. When I left the party only 7 crafters had paid so let’s make sure Robyn is reimbursed for this fun idea!

Also thanks to Twisted Studios Boutique for presentation and chance to shop for Valentine’s Day. If you missed it, stop by their store at the corner of 3rd and Railroad or visit them online at

Stephanie Barnett will be instructing a beginner crossfit class at 1211 Fitness on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at 4:00 pm. Your first week is free and after that there is a $10 drop-in fee or an unlimited classes membership for $100/month. If you’ve been thinking about trying out crossfit join Stephanie today!

Robyn Whaley will be traveling to Haiti in March on a medical mission. Any cash donations or over the counter items like toothbrushes, advil, soap, etc are all appreciated. Please bring donations for Robyn to the February 13th gathering or contact her at 712-249-2811.

Cieja has organized a Mermaid Blood Drive tentatively taking place at the 2nd Street lot (Farmer’s Market spot) on April 6th from 11-2. This is a great non-monetary way to give back to our community and get others involved. As long as we have 10 Mermaids sign up, St. Mary’s of Grand Junction will send out the Bloodmobile and anyone in the community can donate. We’ll send you more details when things are finalized. Thanks for organizing this Cieja!

Rebecca Lemmon is traveling to Mexico to volunteer her expertise at a vet clinic. The clinic is only operative when they have a volunteer vet and donations. I’ll follow up with the link to send donations when I get that.

Shelley Aibner is hosting our next get together on February 13th for Mermaids and Barracudas. More information about the Night of Love to follow!

If you have any of those items or other emergency supplies that you could donate, please bring them to Robyn’s House tonight or you can contact Angela at

For more information about how you can help the flood victims on the front range, please visit – a web portal developed by the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Volunteers for Rifle Rec Center

Dearest Mermaids if you believe in the Rec and Community Center, Please help with the campaign! It will not happen if we as a Community don’t create it!
Many of you have asked “how can I help?” Well, now’s the time. Here’s what we need right now:
  • Rifle chamber of commerce business expo: we are signed up for a booth spot in this fantastic program put on by the Chamber. It is THIS THURSDAY, JUNE 20 FROM 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please take a look at our sign-up sheet and choose one or more two-hour time slots to work the booth. We need friendly faces there all day long to answer questions and hand out information. Shelley, Anna and Angela are already on the list!
  • Centennial concert series: Beginning this Sunday and recurring every Sunday until fall, this a great opportunity for the Rec and Community Center to get some exposure. Please just reply to this email if you can spend some time at the booth that evening.
Any questions, send us an e-mail at or check out our website at
Thank you,
Angela Strode
p.s. By now you’ve probably all heard that we are officially on the ballot for September! The city council voted last night to allow Rifle citizens to choose whether or not a recreation and community center is important to them…and we know the answer is going to be YES!!!
