Thank you to everyone for a wonderful Mermaids adventure last Thursday! Here are just a few things to share from our gathering:
Special thanks to Sue and Ceija, who remains in our positive thoughts and prayers, for sharing with me the harmful effects of red dye on hummingbirds. When female hummingbirds ingest red dye their egg shells may be too soft to successfully reproduce. While there are many controversial articles on this topic, I’d rather be safe than sorry! My feeder now contains a dye-free and totally easy combination of 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. Boil 1-2 minutes until the sugar dissolves, allow to cool, then feed hummingbirds with ease!
Dana is looking for volunteers for the Lemonade Project at the Rifle Farmers’ Market beginning June 27th and continuing every Friday through September 26th from 4-8 pm. The Lemonade Project is a social enterprise sponsored by the Rifle Farmers’ Market. It will be run by community volunteers making and selling freshly squeezed lemonade. Proceeds from sales will fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) incentive offered to participants. The sales provide SNAP shoppers with matching funds in market tokens when they use a benefits card at the market, up to $6.00 each week. SNAP shoppers can use benefits at the market to purchase fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, honey, bread, and plants that produce food such as tomatoes, peppers, herbs, etc. Contact Dana at firstname.lastname@example.org or 970-389-9510 to volunteer.
Thank you to Mary Blichmann for being our special guest and etching stunning wine glasses with the intricate Mermaid logo. All the important details of the logo are preserved on wine glasses that are for sale for $15 each. Part of that cost will go into the Mermaid account, set aside to provide relief when needed. If you are interested, please email, text or call Shelley or Anna to pick one up. Mary, a long-time friend of Shelley Aibner, also shared her portfolio of beautiful pet portraits. If you are interested in her artistic services, please contact Mary directly at email@example.com or 970-319-0918.
